Oacoma to Pine Ridge
LOG - 2nd day Westward
We had planned to leave the motel at 9AM, however we were all ready by around 8:30AM so we decided to head out. We followed Bob's route taking I90 to 83 South to 18 at Rosebud, then West to Pine Ridge. We found that our directions to the school were based on approaching from the North instead from the East as we did. But with the help of the locals we did find it. We found out that the dorm was already occupied by 60 some youth and about 20 advisors working with Youth Works. The leaders welcomed us. We met Allie who got us settled in our rooms. Although we thought we would never get everything unpacked we did manage to do so. Then it was off to the Pizza Hut for a late lunch. During lunch we met up with a very special local person.
Next we were off to meet Pat Perkens at her house. We visited with her awhile and talked about much of what we will be working on. She has a girl in mind who could put the computer we brought along. She is an excellant student who is going into High School this year. The computer classes are all full and one even ended up with 11 students. After visiting with Pat Bud, Kathy, Hilda and I headed to the college center in Manderson. It is a very nice center with a wonderful computer lab. We are looking forward to discovering what the needs will be. When we left the center we stopped at the Wounded Knee cemetary site, it is a very special location and kathy saw many of the names she recognized from her reading.
Back at the school we wound down a bit while Mary headed up fixing a wounderful Chicken diner for. Nancy lead us in a time of prayer and discussion and we closed with prayer. The computer class group was still up at 10:30PM discussing our direction for tomorrow and what we might find and how we should handle different needs of our students. We look forward in also learning from them.
I have been taking pictures, maybe I will get a high speed connection that will allow me upload them to the Web page.
