Tuesday

It looks like another beautiful day today. After breakfast the group working on the grotto and playground equipment headed out. The grotto group got the inside side walls and the remaining area around the roof done. Tomorrow the plan is to work on the inside upper portion. Sister Susan has be diligently working with our group to restore the grotto.

The playground group erected the platform and the tree house trunk sections. Everything was cemented in place. A friend of Al's was working with a bobcat on the grotto and dug out dirt from the playground that needed to be removed. He also removed concrete footings from and old swing set that were exposed. He spread part of the 15 tons of pea gravel that was delivered today. All the accessory pieces have been assembled including the roof sections and the railing for the bridge. They will be assembling the roof tomorrow morning and begin to install the accessories in the afternoon. Linda, Tracy, Kevin and Ron put another coat of stain on the fort. They are praying for very little wind tomorrow so the roof will go up relatively easy.

Bob, Ruth, and Barb went to the Wounded Knee school in Manderson this morning and discovered that the Principal was no longer employed there. The staff knew nothing about the playground plans but did have a pictorial plan from another group that never panned out. Barb took pictures of the existing playground which in our area would be condemned. They will be meeting again on Friday to discuss future plans and possible funding. The six basketball were greatly appreciated by the athletic department teacher. Although the music department teacher was not there, the eyes of the students there lit up when they saw the four guitars and the flute that was brought for them. Along with the guitars, we left instruction manuals and an extra set of guitar strings. One box of library books was also left for their use.

Nancy and Diane performed a loaves and fishes feat when they prepared lunches for 24 people and 40 people were fed. Although they used portions of the food that was designated for tomorrow, Sister Susan had offer us the use of the leftovers from a celebration they had on Sunday so we should not run out of food for the week.

The computer group had two people come in for assistance today. One of the people needed help with general over-all use of computer programs and the other needed help filling out a form for financial aide for school.
