Oacoma to Pine Ridge
LOG - 2nd day Westward
We decided we didn't need to get up early to head out, so most of us used our own, internal, alarm clock. Everyone was on the road by 9:15 am. Neal, Ellen and Nancy were the last to leave Oacoma, SD. Neal and company had an adventure along the way. The van decided it didn't want to go much past Draper, SD. It is a good thing that we have On-Star so we could call for assistance. We also called Bud and Carol and they were as far as Kadoka but came back and traded the computers they were transporting for the perishable food and Nancy. They continued on while Neal and I waited for the tow truck. Ben and Barb were further back in Mitchell, SD so they were able to meet us at the car dealership/auto repair shop in Pierre, SD. They were able to take some more of the things in our van to transport. We ended up renting a car and taking the rest of the things and traveling the rest of the way to our destination . So we all arrived safe and sound eventually. We will find out what is wrong with the van tomorrow.
Bob and Judy took a side trip to the 1880's pioneer village. They have the horse from the movie “Dances With Wolves” and other things that were used in that movie. They enjoyed it immensely. They also had an auction going on so there was a lot of activity there. It was worth the visit.
The facilities here are very nice and the area is beautiful. Some of the folks were able to walk around the grounds here and were very delighted. The people that run the facility seem to be very nice as well. They will be sharing some cultural information with us while we are here.
Mary made us a wonderful supper tonight. Tom McCann shared the Wisdom of the Elders for the day with us after supper. He shared some information about the center with us and asked when we wanted to have our wake up in the morning.
