LOG - Day 3

We had another beautiful day today. We slept in until 7:00 am today so the sun woke some up before the flute music began.

Bob and Ben went to the playground to make sure the cement set as it was supposed to, hang the swings, and take measurements for next years project. All was well so now the playground group is through with this years project.

The computer group had a steady stream of students today. Many times the women from the office at the college center would come in and ask for help on a specific project. We had five people throughout the day. We were again blessed with a cultural experience. Bryan Charging Cloud, Karen White Butterfly, and Vina White Hawk joined us for lunch. Bryan is Karen's husband and he shared many stories with us about traditional foods and their preparation. He told us of some of the foods used for ceremonial purposes. One of four ceremonial celebrations is coming up later this month so they are preparing for that. Karen still prepares many of the traditional foods although not necessarily the traditional way. Electric grinders beat grinding the meat, corn, or fruit by hand. Bryan needed to go back to work after lunch but had hoped to come back and share some type of hand game with us that involved drums, but he must have been detained. Karen made a wonderful fresh mint tea to go with our lunch. We have gotten to interact with many wonderful people this week.

Some of the women took time out for a shopping/sight-seeing trip today. They had a very successful trip. Neal and Ellen found out that a new transmission for their van has been approved by the folks at GM extended warranty (finally) and the new one is ordered and being shipped, however the dealer in Pierre doesn't know when it will arrive. The service department said if it gets to them in the morning they will have it ready in the afternoon. So we will go to the college again in the morning and call to see if there is a commitment to have it ready. If so we will head out and hope to make it to Sioux Falls, SD by nightfall.

David had a busier day today than he has had thus far. It was a good lesson in how to fill out the many forms required.

Supper was made by Carol and Nancy and was again very delicious.
