LOG - Day 3

It was another slow day for the computer team. We didn't have anyone come in this today. Tomorrow morning Bud and Neal will go to the parents house to set up two more computers. The school will be establishing an Internet connection to the house in the future.

The playground equipment team had a setback today. The rivets were too large for the holes in the poles. When they called the manufacturer to ask what they should do, they were told to just drill bigger holes. Unfortunately, we did not have the proper equipment to do that. The hardware store that would carry what we need is a good distance away. Needless to say time was lost on the project today. The other problem encountered for them was the windy conditions. They also found out as they were assembling, that there is another piece missing. It was a very frustrating day for them. To quote Ben, “It was a day!”. The missing pieces will be shipped to arrive on Friday. Despite the setbacks they were able to get quite a bit done and have a positive experience. During their lunch break the materials that we brought for the children were set out on tables and the children were allowed to choose the things they wanted. The smiles on their faces was the incentive that was needed to go back out and work on the tree house with renewed vigor. The horse painting is really looking good. It is almost complete. The children are thrilled because they had a say in the colors and symbols that were painted on them.

Last night the Board of Education met and the President of the parent group is a member of that Board. Sally White Whirlwind told Kathy about the meeting, all of the teachers from the summer school were present and gave a glowing report about our Pilgrim group. They specifically pointed out that they had learned many things in primary class by watching Jean, Mary & Linda on the first day and gained ideas of many things that were new to them. The intermediate teachers also were impressed with the art projects led by Ruth and noted how the children enjoyed them. They were looking forward to us continuing to be with them the rest of the week. Today Kathy, Mary and Jean were called upon for their knowledge of how to deal with a grand mal seizure experienced by the primary teacher. She was taken to the hospital. Now we wonder if we will have a primary teacher tomorrow but hope she will be all right.

The Parent House project is moving forward. Neal installed their first working computer. Sally and Kathy worked on clearing shelves for their new library with books from our Pilgrim people. The parents are thrilled with the help. A meeting is planned for later in the week.

The medical team had another busy day. There were many patients to see throughout the day. The hospital is a fairly new facility and quite nice. The x-ray equipment allows for viewing on the computer right away. The food is what you would normally hear said about hospital food. Since out team eats their lunch there, those of us that have our meal catered by Carol and Nancy definitely have the better deal. Dave did notice that the patient waiting room, although neat and clean, did not have a lot available for the patients to do while they wait. He got permission to bring in some of the children's books that we brought to give the children something to look at or read while they are waiting.

On previous days we have not made much mention of our fantastic cooks and the evening gathering for devotions and reflection. We have been blessed with delicious meals, lovingly prepared for us each day by Nancy, Carol, and Mary. Nancy leads our evening devotional time. We have gotten the opportunity to learn more about each other and the happenings of the day from different perspectives and how God is working with us and through us during our time here. It has been a wonderful experience.
