LOG - Day 2

Today the computer team had some success. We had five students sign in throughout the day and were able to help them with the things they had to do. Yahoo!

Nancy did a lot of cooking. We all appreciate that.

Linda, Sister Susan and Judy worked extremely hard digging holes, painting horses, putting together the rock climbing wall, leaf stepper and ladder for the tree house. They unloaded 18 boxes of donations and put them in the gym at Our Lady of Lourdes. The men put together the base of the structure and poured the cement in the footings. The weather held out. Thank the Lord.

There was a computer at the Parent House that they needed to have looked at. Neal was able to find one that will work well. He brought it back to the dorm and Bud checked to make sure it was in working condition. They will be very pleased to have that going. Much progress was made in cleaning up the Parent House. Mary and Barb worked on the children's play room to put it in usable order. They even vacuumed the piano. Kathy reorganized all of the parent support resource shelves.

The team that went to the school had a good day as well. At Wounded Knee elementary school, Barb and Ruth had a good day with the intermediate students, tutoring them. Mary, Jean, and Kathy were in the Primary classroom. They actually had a teacher today and a counselor and two adult aides. Seven adults for 16 children. We guess they were trying to make up for yesterdays missing staff.

The medical team went to a conference on pain management in the morning that was very informative. A year old child was sent by helicopter to Rapid City because of sepsis and febrile seizure. They do not have a surgeon on staff here so anything that requires a surgeon is sent elsewhere. The same holds true with serious illnesses. They do not have 24 hour nursing staff either. If a child must stay in the hospital a parent or relative must stay with them when the nursing staff is gone.

The evening excitement happened when the weather siren went off and the security guard recommended we head for the basement. Supper waited while we stayed in the basement as long as we could stand it. When we came up we found that one of the bedroom doors had locked and we didn't have a key. We selected the “break and entry” as one of our photos for the day.
